Hulu Parental Controls: Keeping Your Children Safe Online

Ways to Control Your Child on Hulu

There are two main ways you can control what your child does on Hulu. These are by creating a kid’s profile and setting a PIN for adult content. Let’s look at how to do both of these things:

Create a Hulu Kids Profile

So that your children can only access things that are appropriate to their age, you need to create a Kids Profile. This means they won’t be able to access adult content. Here are the steps you need to create this account:

1. Log into your own Hulu account.
2. Find the drop-down menu in the top right corner.
3. Click on ‘manage profiles.’
4. Choose ‘add profile’ to set up a new one for your child.
5. For the profile type, choose ‘kids.’
6. Type in a name for the profile and then select ‘create profile.’

With a Kids profile set up, your child will only be able to watch content that is appropriate for their age. This means the -G, -PG, or -TV-Y.

Set A PIN for Accounts

Creating a designated account for your kids is the best way to ensure they’re not accessing inappropriate content, but you could also choose to set up restricted access. This means you must enter a PIN to watch something. Here is how to set up your Hulu PIN.

1. Log into your own Hulu account.
2. Find the drop-down menu in the top right corner.
3. Click on ‘manage profiles.’
4. Choose ‘edit’ next to the profile you’d like to add a PIN to.
5. Find ‘profile lock’ and then click ‘enable profile lock’.
6. Enter a 4-digit PIN.
7. Choose ‘save changes’ to complete this set up.

When the PIN is activated, anyone who wants to watch content on that profile will need to enter the PIN. It means that kids can’t simply choose to watch something on their parents’ profiles to bypass their age settings.

Final thoughts: Additional Tips

Once you’ve got measures in place, you’ll be able to feel a bit more relaxed about what your children can access on Hulu. However, it’s also very important that they know why these controls exist. Talking to them about why they’re not allowed to watch certain things is one of the best things you can do.
